I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful Easter. May each of you enjoy this day with your loved ones. Be sure to check out my Good Friday link in the first paragraph to see a truly inspiring Easter video.
While leafing through the new 2000 calendar, I realized that Good Friday isn't until the 21st of April. "Late Easter means a late spring," Grandpa's words echoed through my mind. The memory of grandpa's words carried me back over the years to revisit other Easter mornings. My siblings and I always got up early, filled with anticipation. We would throw back the covers, whispering and giggling. What had the Easter Bunny brought us this year? The Easter Bunny never brought us toys as he does children nowadays. On Saturday night, before we went to bed, Mom would take out the beautiful, engraved, silver tray that was only used on special occasions. We would line it with "Easter grass" and leave it for the Easter Bunnyto fill. Early next morning, we would tiptoe into the dining room. The dining room table sat in front of an east window. In the early morning sunlight, that silver tray sparkled. On it would be a large chocolate rabbit, a medium sized one for each of us kids and a wee chocolate chick. Dyed eggs with beautiful designs were set around the edge of the tray. Years later, when I found out that Mom had designed these eggs, I was astounded. I had never fully appreciated her artistic talent until then. After we had sampled one of the hard-boiled eggs, we could then marvel at the new clothes we had received. My sister and I always received long, white stocking, black patent leather shoes and a new dress. We referred to this as our "Easter outfit." White gloves usually accompanied the outfit. I remember one particular Easter when I received the most beautiful, emerald green dress. It had white embroidery worked all across the bodice. Green being my favorite color, I was delighted. That year, my sister received a blue dress made from the same pattern as mine. The white embroidery on the bodice of hers was somewhat different as well. She loved it and danced with joy. My brother always got a pair of black dress pants and a shirt. That year, he received a blue and gray cowboy shirt and a new pair of cowboy boots. These were black with a white design stitched on the toe. He was ecstatic. His old boots had given out months before. To this day, he still wears cowboy boots.
