CHILD MURDERED IN TORONTO

On Monday April 12, 2003, ten-year-old Holly Jones left her home to walk a friend to her home. When she didn't return, her mother assumed she was playing with her friend. By 9 pm, Holly's mother began to worry. She phoned the friend's house only to find that Holly hadn't stayed. She had dropped her friend off and immediately left to return home.

Holly's mother called police. I would imagine that she was frantic with worry. Within 24 hours Holly's remains were found on the shores of Lake Ontario on Toronto's harbor front. The young girl had been dismembered. The first remains were found at Ward's Island. More remains were found later in the day near the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition.

Police have put their best men on the case and have been working 'round the clock to find Holly's killer. Police Constable Angus Armstrong had this to say on April 13. "We'll be going out to the areas where we discovered the packages from yesterday and we'll be expanding our searches from there. We're putting dive team members in the water today and basically searching those areas, expanding out from there. Along with that, we'll be putting a tremendous amount of boats out in the water and again do lots of searching, shoreline search. We'll cover the whole area."

True to PC Armstrong's word, police are still searching today, Tuesday May 20th . The 6 pm edition of City TV News, from Toronto, showed divers in the water of Toronto Harbor. They say they have found something interesting, but did not elaborate.

Holly's remains were found in two duffel bags. One was a carry-on bag, black with a gray decal reading, "Cherokee." The other was a black "Lynx" bag. It is believed they were both purchased at Zellers.

Toronto police have questioned hundreds of people in regards to Holly's disappearance. After Holly's remains were found, the public was told that over 200 convicted and released pedophiles live in within 3 kilometres of Holly's home. People were in shock to find out that these monsters were living practically in their back yards and they had never been notified.

A hue and cry went out for Canada's federal government to initiate a National Sex Offenders database. The problem is, if the Bill is passed through Parliament the list cannot include molesters who have offended previously to the Bill being passed. Only future offenders or those who re-offend will be required, by law, to have their names added to the list. WHAT!!! People reeled when this piece of news was distributed, including myself. How and when do the rights of pedophiles, sexual offenders and perverts come before the rights of a child. Is this really the Canada that I love? Can't be! In my Canada, the rights of children should be of the highest priority. Sexual offenders and pedophiles lose their rights, in my eyes, the moment they offend. I'm hopping mad about this issue, as you can probably tell.

Hi Mary,

What a sad and tragic story! When I read that there were over 200 predators living within 3 kilometers of Holly's home, and no one in the community was notified, I was angry!

When will ...
