Global Fall Line-Up: American Imports

Canwest Global will be adding an amazingly large number of new shows to it's fall line-up this year -- seventeen to be precise. They'll also be switching a few around with CTV, possibly hoping to draw more viewers. While CTV caters to an older audience, Global tends to cater to a more specific 18-49 audience. The first of these switches will be a shock to some daytime viewers. Originally aired by CTV, James E. Reilly's quirky new soap 'Passions' will be trading places with 'General Hospital' this fall, and moving to Global. The downside of this? Global is only available to part of the country, so if you're not in a Global-friendly area, you'll need to get your Harmony-fix through your NBC affiliate.

AMERICAN IMPORTS

BOSTON PUBLIC (FOX): Another new David E. Kelley series. Hopefully this one will fare better than last-seasons 'Snoops'. This time, Kelley heads to a Boston high-school to focus on the trials and tribulations of their faculty. Actors connected with the show include Chi McBride, Lauren Davis, Anthony Heald, Steven Harper, and Fyvush Finkel. Advertisers have had to take Kelley's word on it's excellence -- he claims it's the best thing he's ever done, despite not committing a single moment to film.

DEADLINE (NBC): Oliver Platt and Bebe Neuwirth will be starring in this Dick Wolf drama about a hard-boiled New York journalist.

DON'T ASK (FOX): In a twist for John Goodman, who tends to play the role of 'The Man's Man', he'll be playing a single father in this upcoming comedy. The twist? He's gay. He'll be rooming together with straight college pal (and close friend) Anthony LaPaglia, while the two raise their teenage children together. From the team responsible for 'That '70s Show' and 'Third Rock from the Sun'.

FREEDOM (UPN): This action/sci-fi comes from Joel Silver, producer of 'The Matrix'. It centers on four soldiers in a who are futuristic Robin Hoods, aiding underdogs in a futuristic worl devoid of law and order.

FEARSUM (FOX): This has been billed as TV's first Internet simulcast. The show centers around a Florida-based webmaster, Derek Barnes (played by 'Can't Hardly Wait's Ethan Embry), who runs a web site devoted to debunking the unexplained. Suddenly he starts receiving e-mails from his twin brother...who just happens to have been dead for many years. Viewers will have the opportunity to delve further into the adventures by tuning in to FreakyLinks.com. This comes from 'Blair Witch Project' producer Gregg Hale.
