BCTV's Fall Line-Up (pt. 1)This fall on BCTV, viewers will be getting a few new shows to add to their viewing pleasure. Some of these shows are just new to BCTV this season (ie. "Charmed", "The Norm Show", "Cosby", "Providence"), some new to BCTV alone (ie. "Amazon", "Now and Again"), and some are new-to-CTV imports ("Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", "West Wing", "Snoops", "The Mike O'Malley Show", "Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place"). Of the afore-mentioned, only one is Canadian -- Peter Benchley's "Amazon". The other new shows are all American imports. The over-all winner of the new season seems to be NBC's newest "Law & Order" spin-off, SVU, which premiered on September 20. Why the network thought they needed an L&O spin-off is beyond this viewer, but the series works. Chris Meloni is a powerful on-screen presence, and Dean Winters, although seemingly only a recurring guest star, was also a scene-stealer. Mariska Hargitay seems a little too severe in this role, and Richard Belzer is unneeded, and only seems to be around because of his NBC history. The other possible hit of the season is another NBC drama, "West Wing", which premiered on September 21. Not because it's anything new ("Spin City" did the mayor, what's so different about the president?), but because it's got the cast with the biggest names. Rob Lowe, Bradley Whitford, and Martin Sheen are all well-known to movie buffs, and many of us will also recognize the names John Spencer ("L.A. Law", "Trinity"), Allison Janney, and Richard Schiff. Also in the show is Moira Kelly, co-star of last year's incredible flop, "To Have and To Hold". Premiere Dates of Old Favorites Ally McBeal: October 18 A Quick Look at the Sunday Highlights The Return of Tommy Tricker (BCTV 4:00 PM): This 1994 Canadian film is the sequel to "Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller", and geared towards a younger audience.
