BCTV's Fall Line-Up (pt. 2)

There are eleven shows new to BCTV's primetime schedule this fall, ten American imports, and one Canadian production. How long they will air is anyone's guess. Of the nine that have already premiered, the two that seem most likely to succeed are "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Providence." There's no guarantee on that though -- the down-home "Providence" flavor may not sit well with viewers, and BCTV lost interest in the original "Law & Order" back in 1996.

New Show Descriptions

Amazon: Peter Benchley is the figurehead behind this new-to-television series based on the adventures of six survivors of an airplane crash. Toss in the dangerous elements, and a group of Amazonian tribespeople, and what do you get? A Canadian series that probably won't last the season. (Premieres October 23.) (Airs 9:00 PM Saturday.)

Charmed: Combine "Witches of Eastwick" with "Beverly Hills, 90210," "Sabrina the Teenaged Witch," and "Practical Magic," and you'll have this series in a nutshell. Three sisters (Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano) realise they have magical powers, and use these powers in the service of good. (Premieres September 30.) (Airs 9:00 PM Thursday.)

Cosby: The latest in a series of serieses where Bill Cosby has not only starred in, but given his name to, Cosby plays Hilton Lucas, a former airline employee who was laid off, and now spends his time as sort of a Cosby-ish Dear Abby. (Premiered September 27.) (Airs 8:30 PM Monday.)

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: This spin-off to the phenomenally popular "Law & Order" is the newest hit show to grace both NBC and CTV/BCTV. Starring Chris Meloni, Richard Belzer, Mariska Hargitay, and Dann Florek, this show focuses specifically on crimes handled within New York's Sex Crimes Unit, and will occasionally feature cross-overs from L&O regulars. (Premiered September 20.) (Airs 10:00 PM Monday.)

Now and Again: When Michael Wiseman (John Goodman) is killed in an unfortunate accident, the government decides to provide him with a new body (Eric Close). Unfortunately, he's also left behind a family -- wife Lisa (Margaret Colin) and daughter Heather ("Roseanne"'s Heather Matarazzo). (Premiered September 24.) (Airs 9:00 PM Tuesday.)

Providence: This magical show, set in the town of Providence, features miracle cures that take less than 45 minutes, a former soap star, and a plastic surgeon turned general practitioner. (Premiered September 24.) (Airs 8:00 PM Friday.)

Snoops: In the latest dramedy from David E. Kelley, Glenn Hall (Gina Gershon of Showgirls and Fave/Off fame) and Dana Plant (Paula Marshall of "Spin City" and "Cupid") are high-tech private eyes who use brain rather than brawn to get the job done. (Premiered September 25.) (Airs 8:00 PM Saturday.)
