CanWest Global's Fall Schedule

This fall on CanWest Global, there is an excellent mix of new and returning programs for viewers. Returning this fall are the American shows "Futurama", "Jesse", "That '70s Show", the Canadian shows "Traders", "The Outer Limits", and "The PSI Factor", and a British-Canadian production titled "Bob and Margaret".

In addition to returning fare, there are seven new series set to debut sometime in the 1999 - 2000 season. Don't count on them being permanent though -- the network is going to keep a close eye on two FOX imports, "Ryan Caulfield" and "Harsh Realm", to make sure that they aren't too violent. Many networks are toning down their programming in the wake of the Littleton, Colorado, tragedy.

Canadian Made-for-TV Film Fare

CanWest will air five new TVM's this season: Task Force Caviar (about a drug lord in eastern Canada, based on a true story), Family: The Life and Times of Joseph Bonanno (about the life of a Mafia kingpin), The Reichmanns (Jewish family who fled the Holocaust to find success in North America), March of the Living (Holocaust survivors march for freedom), Should I Stay or Should I Go? (examining why Canadians go to the US to look for jobs).

New Canadian Shows

Code Name Eternity: Debuting mid-season, CNE features stars Ingrid Kavelaars and Cameron Bancroft (famous for his work in "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "The Cape") in an action/romance based on the efforts of a woman (possibly Kavelaars) and an alien (possibly Bancroft) as they work to clear their names of a false murder rap.

New American Imports

Ryan Caulfield (from FOX): A new cop show from the people that brought viewers "The Negotiator", "Ryan Caulfield" centers around teenager Ryan Caulfield (Sean Maher), a young man more interested in hanging out with his girlfriend (Amanda Detmer) than going to college, but he ends up joining the Philadelphia PD days while spending nights living in his widowed mother's (Mary McDonnell) house. Also starring Roslyn Sanchez, Michael Rispoli, and James Roday. Will air Fridays at 8:00 pm.

Odd Man Out (from ABC): A new family show from the people that brought viewers "There's Something About Mary", "Odd Man Out" features former "Days of Our Lives" and "So Weird" actor Erik von Detten as Andrew Whitney, a teenage boy growing up in a houseful of women with his mother Julia (Markie Post of "Night Court") and three sisters: Paige (Natalia Cigliuti), Val (Lynsey Bartilson), and Elizabeth (Marina Malota). Throw in Julia's wacky sister Jordan (Jessica Capshaw) and a guy named Keith (Trevor Fehrman), and you've got a mostly female version of "Full House".
