Paula: How long have you been a full-time writer?

Jack: Ever since I sold my novels into the United States which was 1996. It's a terrible thing to say, and I say it often, but the reality is, if you're a best-selling Canadian author, don't give up your day job, because Canada is not a large enough market to sustain a full-time writer.

[Paula's note: He is right. In Canada, if a hardcover book sells only 5000 copies, it is considered to be a bestseller. The number is 10 000 in sales for paperbacks.]

Indeed, Whyte's books continually sell well, because as new readers are discovering the series they are going back and purchasing all of his previous books. He also has a large following in the States as well as in Europe. His mini-series, The Golden Eagle, will consist of two titles.
