My grandsons love to cook. They love eating the things that they make.. I find that kids will eat things that they make without fuss, even if there are ingredients that they normally wouldn't eat. My grandsons don't like tomatoes, but when we grow them and pick them ourselves they will eat them. That's when I got the idea of letting the kids cook their own food. It worked. They now eat many things that they never would have before. I've found some easy recipes for the boys to enjoy and now I'd like the share them with you and your kids. Pumpkin Smoothy Ingredients: 1 - 15 ounce can of pure pumpkin, 1 - 12 ounce can of evaporated milk, 8 ounces vanilla low fat yogurt, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1 pint of low fat whipping cream whipped to form peaks Method: In a blender, combine pumpkin, evaporated milk, sugar and yogurt. Blend until smooth. Pour into milkshake glasses and top with whipped cream. The kids will love this tasty drink and it's good for them. Homemade Ice Cream Ingredients: 1 quart of half and half, 1 can condensed milk, 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract, Method: Combine condensed milk, half and half and vanilla in a large bowl. Mix. Freeze for 2 hours. If you wish to add fresh, unsweetened fruit now is the time. Beat on medium for 30 seconds. Freeze until firm. Serve and enjoy. Tuna Casserole Ingredients: 6 cups of cooked and drained pasta, 3 tablespoons margarine, 4 stalks of celery, chopped finely, 1/4 cup chopped onion, 2 cans tuna, drained well, 2 cans mushroom soup, 1 cup crushed potato chips Method: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt margarine in skillet. Add celery and onion. Cook until tender, stirring occasionally. Add pasta and tuna. Mix well. Pour into casserole dish. Sprinkle with crushed potato chips. Bake for ½ hour. Serve while hot. Doughnuts Ingredients: 1 package of refrigerated biscuits Method: Use a doughnut cutter to cut holes in the biscuits. Deep fry in heated oil. Lay on paper towel to drain and cool. Sprinkle with granulated sugar, icing sugar, or a mixture of white sugar and cinnamon. These are just like the ones grandma used to make. Tasty! Be sure to supervise children through the deep frying. Grease can cause severe burns. Jello Pie Ingredients: 2 packages of flavored jello of your choice, 2 cups boiling water, 3 cups ice cubes, 1 - 12 ounce container of frozen whipped cream, 2 pie shells Method: Bring water to a boil in saucepan. Stir until dissolved. Pour into mixing bowl. Add ice cubes and stir until mixture thickens. Add whip cream. Mix well. Pour mixture into pie shells. Place in refrigerator until firm. Serve and enjoy.
