Operation Apollo

Now almost four months after the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon, Canada is again sending men and equipment to the Arabian Gulf.

By this time in January 2002, a detachement to two CP-140 Long Range Patrol aircraft will be patrolling the Arabian Gulf in support of the US led effort to eradiacte terrorism in the region.

Canada, with more than 3,000 men and women already serving in the region has been a true brother to the United States and has been very commited to helping in it’s effort to hunt down and stop the leaders of the Taliban and Al Qieda networks.

Canada has already deployed in addition to the two CP-140’s mentioned above, five ships, one CC-150 Polaris aircraft, and a small component of the JTF-2 (Special Forces). These forces, excluding the JTF-2, is responsible for ship and convoy safety, and for stopping and searching suspicious naval activities in the region of the Arabian Gulf.

The Canadian citizens I’ve spoken with, have nothing but praise for the men and women of the Canadian Armed forces that are serving in the war against terrorism. Although the attack was on America, and it’s peoples, Canadians are inextricably tied to the welfare of the United States. And Canadians (most anyway) indentify strongly with America and it’s values, beliefs and needs.

For this reason, Canada has commited a very large portion of it’s armed forces to this fight. Canada, a large country with a small population, has seen it’s military might dwindle in strength over the years because of monetary constraints and it’s strong dependence on it’s close proximity to the United States and it’s huge, well equipped and maintained military force.

Despite it’s relatively small force, Canada, whether it’s for Operation Apollo, or for fighting the Nazi’s in World War Two, The Czar in World War One, or the Communists in Korea, has given it’s all, it’s sons and daughters to the cause of world peace and safety. And Canada, right now in a drive to expand, upgrade, and modernize it’s armed forces, will always be ready to support, and protect the free nations of the world, or nations wishing to be free of tyranny or terrorism. Canada will continue to be a force dedicated to democracy and will commit it’s patriots to fight and die for just causes the world over. Lest We Forget
