What Happens Now?

Well, it's been two weeks now. The dust is settling and the death toll is horrendous. Canada and the US are scrambling to figure out what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.

America is preparing for war. They have their special forces deployed near Afghanistan, and their navy in the Persian Gulf. Their administration is going to tighten security on the US/Canada border by increasing the number of customs agent, and putting in more sophisticated screening tools.

I was listening to the CBC's NewsWorld today and one of the ministers was talking about how many men the Canadian Army had to help in the effort/war against terrorism, and she said that she had been told that Canada could only muster 5,000 combat ready troops. I'm sure that those 5,000 are ready and eager to join in with the coalition forces, but at this time the US has not made that request. Hopefully before too long the Canadian Parliament will work on getting more troops trained and ready to help out in the near future.

Canada's location in relation to the US and it's mighty military machine has prompted the government of Canada to let it's military readiness slip. Who wants to keep a million man army when there is one right next door to help protect you? No one in their right mind. And Canada is no different.

The Canadian military and the Canadian people have always been there to help in moments of crisis and tragedy. This time will be no exception, I'm sure. The Canadian military has always been the bravest, most staunch defenders of freedom the world over and will not let that tradition die now. For to let it die now will be to let down the Canadian people and their friends around the world, and their neighbours to the south, the United States of America.

Canada was formed on the basis of freedom for all, and this includes everyone, not only Canadians. If a country needs help to remain free and to continue spreading freedom throughout the world, then Canada will help. They were there in WWI, WWII, Korea, Kosovo, Rhawanda and I'm sure they will be there for the democracies of the world today. Many Canadian troops are at present serving in Kosovo and Macedonia.

The word 'Freedom' spreads fear and breeds hate in those that oppose it. The terrorists that made this attack on the US were in fact attacking what the US, Canada, and the worlds democracies stand for. Freedom. Individual Rights. Humanity.

Canada will be ready!
