Debate rages on over same-sex marriage
About the only argument that holds any legal logic is that which espouses (no pun intended) government getting out of the marriage business all together, allowing churches or other social institutions to 'marry' people, while the government would simply recognize all civil unions. At least the legal playing field would be leveled. Of course, sometimes even the most complex issues can best be decided by heeding the sage advice once delivered by most of our mothers and paraphrased by former Prime Minister Trudeau: if it doesn't directly concern you, mind your own business. Let's hope parliamentarians will quickly get past this completely unnecessary diversion and get on with the real issues of governance.
