Independence v. Canada Daythe American celebration is bigger, bolder and brasher reflects the reality of how that country came to be: it's brazen beginning merits boisterous commemoration. Canada - polite, jovial and good humored, continues to smile good-naturedly at comparisons to its brasher neighbor and wave smaller flags in celebration of what may yet come. And that can be just as much reason to be patriotic. Note: having just celebrated how much I love my country - I'm leaving it to visit Italy for a few weeks. Thus - the Canadian Politics column will return on August 8.
