A Dog's Life© Meeko Hi Kids, my name is Meeko. I'm Mary's Alaskan Malamute. Here is my picture.
Mary and Dwight take me for long walks everyday. I always get at least 2 long walks and 4 short ones. Sometimes I get more, depending on the weather. Though I like the really cold weather, I have to remember that Mary and Dwight don't have a fur coat like mine. They get really cold when the temperature is minus 20 degrees. I love it. I roll in the snow and act silly. Winter is my favorite time of year. It is when I enjoy the snow and all the fun things that northern dogs like to do. Besides rolling in the snow, I like to chase Brandon and Jordan down the hill when they go sledding. Now that is fun! They zoom down the slippery hill in the field across the street. I can keep up to them, though. Spring will soon be here and I will start shedding. That is when Mary and Dwight have to brush my coat two or three times a day. I get itchy and if they don't comb all of the loose hair out, I dig myself with my paws. That can cause me to have sores on my body. That is not a pleasant thing. I enjoy spring, also. It is the time when the animals all come out of their winter homes. I enjoy the squirrels and a mama raccoon lives in the huge tree at the end of the driveway. I would like to chase the squirrels and raccoons, but Mary is very strict about this. When I lift my foot and would like to tear off on the chase, she says, "Meeko, no!" I know better than to do it then because Mary can have a very sharp tongue when I don't mind. I like to please her and Dwight, so try to do what I'm told. Well, it's time for everyone here to go to bed. I will keep watch over the house while Mary and Dwight get a good night's sleep. That is part of a dog's life. I will be back soon to tell you more about my life at Mary's and Dwight's house. Until then, play safely and take time to play outside. Just like me, you need exercise to stay healthy.
