One of my grandsons' favorite treats is a trip to Timmy's (the Canadian nickname for the chain of Tim Hortons doughnut shops).
Along with their Timbits®, the boys like to order an ice cold bottle of apple juice. I also enjoy a trip to Timmy's. I love their delicious fresh brewed coffee or sometimes a tea. Along with that, I usually have a Fruit Explosion® muffin. There are so many different doughnuts to choose from at Timmy's, that's it's hard to decide just what to order. Chocolate dip and double chocolate are favorites, as are many others. These include Dutchie® (with raisins and glaze), maple, crueller, Boston cream, sour cream glazed, honey dip, chocolate mint, apple fritter, and many more. You can buy many other things at Tim Hortons®. Their soups, sandwiches and bagels are delicious, as are their cheese croissants. Tim Hortons began many years ago when two friends, an NHL hockey player (Tim Horton) and a policeman (Ron Joyce) decided to go into business together. The first store opened in May 1964, (before many of your parents were born) on Ottawa Street, Hamilton, Ontario. That store is still there and is referred to as Store #1. Everyone loved the quality products, cleanliness, value and service that the store provided. At that time, no one could have known that this little doughnut shop would become one of the largest chains in Canada and even branch out in the United States (the US has stores in six states). 2004 was the 40th anniversary of Tim Hortons®. Its busiest store is located on Colborne Street, Brantford, Ontario. That city alone is home to 11 Tim Hortons® shops, and every one of them is so busy that you almost always have to stand in line. If you would like to know more about this history of Tim Hortons®, come back next week. That's when I will tell you the name of the original two doughnuts sold when Tim Hortons® opened; how many seasons Tim Horton played in the NHL; the location of the US stores, and more. Until then, if you are close to a Tim Hortons®, ask an adult to take you there for a delicious doughnut or a couple of Timbits®. Mmm! Delicious.
