Each October, my wife Pam and I look forward to our regional RV show, The show is held annually at the Pomona (Ca.) Fairgrounds which is large enough to display acres and acres of recreational vehicles. Everything from the basic pop-up to $400,000 luxury coaches (John Madden Mobiles?) is set-up for our viewing and buying pleasure. There are plenty of sales reps. present from each manufacturer/dealer-their greedy little hands extended in cheerful welcome.
Enjoying Yourself We make a day of it when we attend. After trooping through all the interesting models and touring the accessories/products tent, we deposit our weary behinds in a nice restaurant and eat out! These shows, kidding aside, are very informative if you are thinking of buying a new RV or just curious about what's new on the scene. Although our area's show happens in October, they are scheduled throughout the year. RV America has a listing of show dates for locations across the U.S. and Go Rving Canada lists show dates there. Last year we were in the market for a new travel trailer and the annual RV Show provided us with some very helpful ideas and valuable information. If you attend a RV show and have serious plans to buy, here are some helpful tips. Do Some Research Before Attending It's a very good idea to do some preliminary research before going to the RV Show. Have at least a general idea as to what you want to buy: consider makes, models, floor plans, price range, size of RV, and quality of the unit. An extensive list of manufacturer's web links can be found at the RVers.com. Peter Scalf's RV Advice of the World Wide Web is a great web site to ask technical questions. Peter has been a mechanic for 25 years and will answer posted questions. Have a Plan Bring a notebook or pad with you to the show and once there, decide which displays interest you more. RV shows have many exhibits; visit the ones that have the models you are interested in first-then do your wandering and dreaming. Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions! Salespeople working these shows know that most folks are just looking. Also, collect all the brochures you can. When you get home, you can sit down and compare makes and models. Pam collects them like stamps! I believe she thinks they will be worth something someday.
