Dogs Love Camping!Walking the Dog Going for a walk or hike is the camping activity most enjoyed for our beagles. After dinner each evening, we make the rounds through the campground - beagles on parade. They know the routine well and wait impatiently for their leashes. We found that plastic sandwich bags are great for collecting their "donations." In fact once home, Pam always finds a couple of bags in the bottom of the washing machine (unused of course). Since National and State Parks do not allow pets on trails, a walk around the campground roads, a fire road, or local trail satisfies their exercise needs. Make Preparations Camping and our dogs go hand-in-hand; however, we never go without making preparations. We ensure that all their immunizations are up to date and that we bring along their rabies certificates. Many parks will not allow pets without a current rabies certification. We also have our beagles on heartworm pills (by prescription from your veterinarian) and they get a thorough tick check every night. The American Animal Hospital Association has a wonderful web site that lists 17,000 veterinary hospitals and provides a petcare library with lots of good advice. Pam and I dearly love our dogs and we love our camping as well. Putting the two together, we have some grand times and make lasting memories. Where do you (and your dog) want to camp tonight?
