California's Winter WonderlandFor the skateboarding crowd, there is a new Roller Coaster terrain park at Tahoe Donner. Mt. Shasta Ski Park For scenic beauty, you can't beat this one. Located at the foot of the 14,162-foot Mt. Shasta, this winter wonderland is only 60 miles from the Oregon boarder. It claims 31 total trails on 425 skiable acres. Most of the trails are lined with trees. The trails are advertised as ranging from beginning to "heart pumping". There are 30 km of beginning to intermediate cross-country runs. Sierra Summit Mountain Resort Here you will find 400 skiable acres for beginning to expert skiers. Like other family oriented resorts, there are programs for children from 4-12 years old. Their Express programs claims "fun and skiing are mixed with constant supervision by trained instructors." For snowboarders, there is the Terrain Garden. Sierra Summit also has rentals and lessons available to snowboarders. Northstar at Tahoe The ultimate vacation playground, Northstar offers a family ski vacation/lodging package that includes free ski or snowboarding lessons for the entire family. When you get tired of skiing or snowboarding, try their snowmobile tours, a sleigh ride across the icy wonderland or a thrill packed dog sled run. It's one of my regrets, because I love snow, and I've always loved the feel of the wind on my face. And snowboarding? I think I'd like that even more.
