If you plan to fly, your nearest commercial airport is in Reno, Nevada. Another option is to fly into Sacramento. Rent a car and enjoy the drive along the twisty road to the lake. Just make sure you have time for a relaxed, leisurely drive. Although the road is good and the scenery gorgeous, it's not one you want to drive at high speeds.

When I first saw South Lake Tahoe I thought, this is where I want to retire. On a second glance, it is a typical tourist location with a bit too much traffic for such a small place, but there is one main street through the town. Anything you need will be along that street. Getting around isn't difficult if you're patient. It is a certainty that this will remain one of my favorite vacation spots.

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place. I just returned from a trip there. The water is so clear and huge...fresh air...and plenty of things to do.

I went there on vacation as a teenager. We were camping at Sugarpine. I don't know how it is now, but we loved it. There were guided hikes, programs...and really cute college-aged rangers. I'd love to ...
