If you do come in contact with the stuff, immediately take a cold shower. Never, repeat, never ever take a bath or else all you’re doing is soaking in a poison oak soup, which spreads it
everywhere. If you can’t get to a shower quickly, scrub down with baking soda and just a little
water. Be careful not to scrub in places you know have not been exposed to the plant.
If you’re really brave you can dig or pull poison oak out. This usually only works when plants are young. Wear gloves and slide a plastic bag over your forearm. Loosen the roots with a shovel and then grab and pull the stem near soil level. After pulling out the entire noxious seedling and while holding it with your bag-covered hand, pull the plastic bag down off your arm, turning it inside out as it comes off your hand so the poison oak ends up encased in the plastic bag. Good luck, and be careful out there. Go To Page: 1 2
