Year of the Bachelor Button
Besides bachelor's buttons, another well-known member of the centaurea family is dusty miller (C. cineraria). Dusty miller is known for its unique gray-silver foliage, not its rather unattractive purple flowers. Dusty millers also are perennials in that they usually come back year after year in our climate.
If you want an easy-to-grow, carefree summer or fall bloomer, look to all species of the centaurea family.
