When Life Hands You Lemons: Tribute to a Departed FriendI can still remember laughing when Del told me he had gotten kicked out of the gym for arguing a referee's call as coach of his daughter's recreational basketball team. I'm a part-time referee and I know all too much about coaches and parents, who "go over the top" during the heat of a game. I remember us laughing when I told him, "My only regret is that I didn't have the pleasure of being that ref." It is always so unfair and so mysterious when someone so good, is taken from us so early. Even more unfair and more mysterious is the fact that those who aren't so good, aren't so honest or aren't so hard working, continue to be here. Life isn't always fair. Since this is a gardening column, suffice it to say that Del was certainly the type of person to see the good in everything and everyone. Del certainly would have made lemonade from lemons. Really great lemonade. We'll miss you, buddy. ***A college trust fund has been set up for Del's three children.
