Equally impressive were the large deciduous trees and shrubs like willows, wisteria, magnolia, honey locust and more. Their bare branches really added an artistic touch to the mounds of color provided by annuals, perennials and spring-blooming bulbs. For the flowering hyacinths, by the way, you could smell their fragrance before you saw them.
It was fun to see what plants interested the spectators enough where they not only "oohed and aawed," but took the time to write down the names. Some included: "Red Osier" dogwood (Cornus sericea) and the buttercup winter hazel (Corylopsis paaciflora). It was also fun to see what people were buying in the Plant Market. There were crowds around the $2 lily bulbs, dinner-plate dahlias and bare-root roses. The $25 bare-root weeping pussy willow trees were a steal, and I only wish I could have gotten one back on the airplane ride home! ---------------------------------------------------------------- The San Francisco Flower & Garden Show web page is easy to find at: www.gardenshow.com Go To Page: 1 2
