The Metric System was invented by French scientists in the late 18th century as a standardized system of measurement based on the decimal system and not fractions. So many countries use this system as their standards for measurement so I wanted you to be able to have some Conversion Charts, Tables and Calculators at your fingertips.

From Bakers Boulanger, this chart shows all three units of measure http://216.149.133.208/baker2/metric.sht...

Take a spin over to Epicurious.com which has an excellent Weights and Measures Explanations and Conversion Charts:http://www.epicurus.com/measures.htm Where they have included all three standards of measure : Metric,Imperial and United States. And I also really enjoyed using their Conversion Calculator - very simple to use(http://www.epicurus.com/calculations.htm... Epicurious made some good points to take note of - for example that in America we use standarized measures(i.e. measuring teaspoon) whereas sometimes European cooks will use their spoons they use at home - so when trying to duplicate the results of a European recipe using your US standard measurement utensils take a look at some of the tips they offer .

Interesting site that has some basic concepts for understanding metric measures, followed by conversion charts from American to French measures and vice versa. http://www.las.alfred.edu/~ml/weights_&_...

Food Conversion Chart from MIT- very extensive - I don't think they left any stone unturned in this compilation:http://www.mit.edu:8001/people/wchuang/c...

British and US Cooking Measures and Conversion Calculators http://www.globalgourmet.com/cgi-bin/hts... Has British and US Cooking Terms, as well as Oven Temperature Conversions for British and US ovens.
