A simple way to decorate your cake is with different colored fondant decorations in the fall shades - cut out acorn, fall leaves from your rolled fondant and place it on your iced cake. Varied shaped cookie cutters in fall shapes can be used. Then how about a dusting of bronze, copper or golden edible dust on the cut outs to give it some fall shimmer. Some other ideas could be to do a basket weave design on a round layer cake and then put fondant or gumpaste apples(roll a ball of red colored fondant into an apple shape and add a stem and then put a dusting of red and gold dust to give it some interest) in the basket.
