A Hall of Famer in the ranks of “Domestic Scientists” is none other than the incomparable Fannie Farmer. She set the precedent for providing accurate measurements and amounts so the results for cooks and bakers were consistent instead of unpredictable ones. Her standardized measurements first appeared in her 1896 cookbook “The Boston Cooking-School Cookbook”. She directed her cookbooks to the home cook and baker giving them an understanding in down to earth practical terms that she communicated easily. Putting your heart and soul into your cooking was at the core of her teachings. She also was reputed to be the first woman to lecture at Harvard Medical School- a very commendable accomplishment for a woman of her time.
