Usually gingerbread brings to mind warm and fond memories of the holiday season. But gingerbread has taken on some interesting variations as a confection with many design facets.
For a wonderful site chock full of photos ,tips, recipes and ideas for the gingerbread affecionado go to Gingerbread Lane Kitchens http://www.gingerbreadlane.com/index.html . There are also featured tips on preserving your works of edible art. At Epicurious http://www.epicurious.com/b_ba/b02_class... there is a simple gingerbread cottage that could be good for a beginner gingerbread maker. For another charming cottage, please check out this page from Good Housekeeping that features a Colette Peters’ design. At this page if you have “Quick Time” you can view the cottage from any angle ( I had fun doing that!). And of course, how could we forget the Martha Stewart fans - so I’ve included Martha Stewart’s ginger bread house recipe from: http://www.marthastewart.com/television/... One of my favorite Italian dessert cookbooks is from the chef, Nick Malgieri. It was a gift from my Italian mom and it is a treasured staple in my kitchen. The following recipe is from another of his cookbooks titled “ Cookies Unlimited”. I look forward to trying this one out. You can see the recipe at : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/fea... Another fun site to check out is : http://www.newsobserver.com/standing/col... This article is from Jan Curry from the Raleigh News Observer newspaper. It showcases a wonderful gingerbread design done to more realistically resemble a home and uses cereals and nuts to decorate instead of candies. There is also an animated guide to building gingerbread houses but you will need a Flash Plug In to view it. Next article will have some new twists on this traditional favorite.
