How long did it take to write C# Unleashed and were you working on it
full-time? |
| Joe Mayo |
C# Unleashed took a good 9 to 10 months of work. I was holding down a
full-time job and writing in my spare time.

Are you working on another book? |
| Joe Mayo |
Yes. |

What made you decide to start specializing in C#? |
| Joe Mayo |
I have a background in C, C++ and Java. When I saw Microsoft's official
announcement on June 26th, 2000, I knew immediately that this was my future.

I'm sure you've heard about the Mono Project. Do you think
C# will be ported to other operating systems (other than Linux)? If so,
will .Net follow? |
| Joe Mayo |
Out of curiosity, I browse the Mono site every once in a while. Their work is
very interesting, as is the DotGNU.
.Net is actually the name of Microsoft's Common Language Infrastructure (CLI)
implementation. They've already thrown their hat into the cross-platform ring with
Rotor, which runs on both FreeBSD and Windows XP. Since the source code is available,
it's only a matter of time until we see ports to other operating systems. I just
saw an article the other day, on the O'Reilly site I believe, where someone discussed
their experience porting Rotor to Linux.

How is the C# community thriving today? Do you get a lot of C# questions from
your web site?
|
| Joe Mayo |
The C# commnunity is bustling with activity. If the plethora of new sites and
discussion groups is any indication, the population of developers using this tool
to build .Net applications is growing quickly.

Now that Visual Studio.Net is out, which is also the first C# compiler available
commerically, do you think C# will start to make in roads into corporate IT?
|
| Joe Mayo |
It already has. The entire .Net Framework and Visual Studio.Net are geard towards
business, delivering increased productivity to developement teams building enterprise
scale web-based systems. Both myself and the developers I work with agree, "we were
never this productive with Java."
