Have you ever sat down to watch a good show and couldn't remember what channel it was on? You flip through your programming guide to see if you can remember which channel is will be showing on, so many channels, so little time, so you just pick a channel and go with it.
Think if it were your business and you could use channels for different aspects of your business as sort of a way to operate. In today's digital world businesses are moving to virtual operations with customers, suppliers and other businesses. Channels allow a business many different options to operate more effectively. Lets explore the "digital channel" and how it's being used in business. First we should get a perspective of why someone would want to use a channel in the first place. It goes without saying that most businesses that even think about this type of technology are already involved in some type of digital operations, across the miles or in large organizations. I see digital channels accomplishing three things. First it allows the business to better interact with users or "customers" at a more rapid pace and on a more personal level, and provide them with a myriad of services that normally calls for a large staff and numerous man-hours of dedicated attention. Second, it positions the business in a virtual operating environment that can be configured and managed quickly and more easily than a number of traditional setups. For example, you might setup a digital channel to gain business insight about how you market, sell to and serve your customers and by using the speed, agility and vastness of a digital environment, focus on each element of the customer experience and lifecycle. Some businesses even use digital channels to get a multidimensional view of a customer market and through this "digital channel" design a customer CRM solution tailored to the specific company, industry and brand. The third accomplishment I see for a "digital channel" is the ability to get and supply current information. Sure some traditional ways are more feasible, and sometimes more secure, but lets face it, if you're into the digital environment it becomes a race for who has the largest amount of information as well as who can get the best quality of information. Businesses compete for information by the minute, and digital channels provide a business a way to provide and acquire information at amazing rates in amazing quantities. Lets look at the B2B market.
