Does your business use computers and network technology or the Internet to conduct their operations? Well, this article is for you. If you are trying to figure out your technology situation, then you are reading the right article. In the world of business improvement, and business process improvement we call this the continuous process improvement (CPI). This is not to be confused with the Consumer Price Index, which is also CPI.
We will embark on an exploration to improve your business with technology. I am not trying to give a textbook answer to fix all or any problems you may be experiencing or that any other business may be experiencing with technology. Let's move along and get to the heart of the article. I will say again, that I may not have all the answers; but at least you can take my ideas, do some homework, and you could come up with some answers you need to make a good decision. The first thing you need to do is complete a good assessment of your business practices with technology. If you only have a cash register or an antiquated computer, it would be like sitting on an interstate highway without moving and watching all of the other vehicles pass you buy at break-neck speeds. When assessing the need for technology in the businessplace, you must look at many things and many of them individually. Some aspects of technology stare us right in the face and some are hard to find. I have narrowed the five things you must do to even begin to improve your business with technology. First, you must decide on a general area and spend the time to fit the right solution to your business. Each of these categories will be explored in a separate article. We will explore these categories: The Business Plan Value in Processes Process and Technology Matching Gap Analysis Continuous Improvement Cycle The Business Plan (for Improving Your Business with Technology) The first category we will explore is the business plan. The "Business Plan" centered technology strategy is one that requires a great deal of time, effort and in some cases money, depending on how large your business is or will get. If you want to be successful in implementing technology in the business place, you must first start with your business plan. For most businesses this means a deep review and even a rework of the entire plan. If you're a new business, you need to write one. The reason for this is that most businesses that started five or more years ago would not have even begun to consider items in their business plan under today's business operations environment.
