Fiat to introduce Palio in India

Positioned as a family car, the 1600-cc Fiat Siena has a whole range of safety systems, including reinforced body shell and side impact bars in the doors as well as an energy absorbing steering (EAS) wheel. The Ranjangoan unit is likely to be the only Fiat manufacturing plant where all the three models are slated to be manufactured.

Fiat produces the "Siena" in its Cordoba plant in Argentina while the other Palio vehicles are manufactured in Brazil. The Cordoba unit is also an export base from where the car is exported to Europe. Other countries where the Siena is manufactured include Turkey, Poland and Venezuala.

Fiat is also considering the possibility of exporting the Siena out of India. Fiat sources added that because of the competitive nature of the car market, it is more important to be present near the customer. Hence initially, the exports may be aimed at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries, even though the volumes are not likely to be high.
