What a Prairie Owl is.

If you have ever heard the term, oh it is a prairie owl and wondered what that is exactly, I have news for you. It just happens to be our dear little Burrowing owl.

The Burrowing owl happened to get the nick-name of prairie owl a long time ago because that was primary where it was seen.

The burrowing owl decided prairie-dog dens were just what it wanted to nest in.

So, along comes a person, observes a few dozen owls living on the prairie and decides to tell everyone about the new "prairie owl" they just saw.

The tiny owl, about 10 inches tall, finds a mate and then selects a nice cozy den to raise its young.

And let's not forget this owl, unlike other owls, is active during the day. From sunup to sundown.

Make no mistake, the prairie owl and the burrowing owl are one and the same.

More on them next week.
