From Namaqualand, Karroo, and Western and Southern Cape. Also deciduous and winter-growing. This one flowers from April to June. Flower colors are white, pink and mauve and this one is highly scented.

Seeds are often available from Silverhill Seeds in South Africa (or see my Welcome Page also for web address) or from the Indigenous Bulb Growers Society in South Africa (IBSA). This organisation also supplies newsletters once you become a member, which can help you get to know your South African plants and growing conditions.

Lastly, take a look at this lovely image of Polyxena ensilofia, white form, which was posted recently on the IBS bulb images forum. Tony Palmer, another of our truly professional bulb growers from New Zealand, has given me permission to use it here. You may even be able to find bulbs or seed from his website and start your own collection of this lovely South African species at: Kellydale Nursery

Happy growing.

Until next time.

Hi Bill et al,

These little fellows seem to flourish even in the big wet.
Their growing medium, as they are out in the open garden, has extra sand added for drainage.
