From Flotation to Growing plants
Do not worry if the seed is sticking up out of the soil on top, or sticking up in the air, as it will not affect the plants' progress, as long as you have positioned the root stem into the mix. When you have positioned the first one in, gently, but firmly, press the perlite mix around the root shoot with your finger or pencil. Do this with each plant until you have about 5 or 6 in a pot. Do not put too many in one pot, as there is no need to overcrowd them. When watering, use a fine mist spray bottle or bottom water them by standing the pots in a container of water until it rises up to the top of the mix. Do not leave them in too long as the potting mix might wash out. Keep them moist during the growing period and don't let them dry out. Make sure at this stage that your label with all the details you want listed, is marked and pushed into the side of your pot. Put this in a shady spot and get ready to watch them grow! Let the seeds grow on in these pots into the second year, then re-plant into separate pots. When replanting, do not re-plant the small bulbils too deeply; best to keep them at ground level or slightly out of the soil. Be careful not to break the roots when re-potting. By keeping good records and results of successes and failures you can help by passing the information onto other seed growers. Good Growing Bill Richardson Ixia King. Until next time.
