The Melbourne Garden and Flower Show.
Part 2. Welcome back to the final section of this article. Now. we are just moving toward the great pavilion, after spending a wonderful morning outside, enjoying the plant displays and gardens. We bought quite a lot of goodies in the way of Liliums, Irises and succulents. The kids had a lovely time too, spending their pocket money on nice little garden ornaments and nick-nacks.
Now, we are heading inside the pavilion where the best of the best garden designers have put on the most marvellous show of their talents, as they vie for First Prizes in the competitions. Here we go, into the great pavilion of the Exhibition Hall Many artists are at work here. They come from all over Australia to show their wares but the special ones are the great Victorian garden designers whose places we visit on a regular basis. This year, one of the competitions was for the best design of a dress made out of flowers. They were exquisite this year and I photographed a very nice one shown in the photo which was one of the prize winners.
At this stage,we are looking down from the upstairs gallery at the large crowd in here and all the display. Our aim was to have some refreshments at the cafe, before we started walking around There was a wonderful display using musical notes and flowers. The huge piano keyboard stood out amongst all the blooms But the wall of flowers was one of the most spectacular of all and I could just picture this at my home as a great feature. I stood there for quite a while, mesmerised by the delight of this wall.
What a wonderful display! I think the bamboo in the display just sets it off so nicely and I tried to photograph it with the light shining on it. One of the hardest things whilst photographing at these shows is, usually the crowds get in the way. The challenge is trying to snap before someone walks in front of the camera. This next photo is an interesting one. You could see it from quite a distance , as it sloped down and also caught the light, which reflected on the glass. Inside the glass, the specimens just glowed with colour and I couldn't resist taking quite a few shots. Like many of the displays and exhibits, this one aimed to be different, spectacular, eyecatching, unusual, vibrant. It achieved, for my eye, all of these qualities.
