The Melbourne International Flower Show is held each year in March and always attracts many stall holders, not only from Melbourne but from other States and even overseas. Each year, the show changes in some aspect but there is always plenty to see and do. One of the highlights of the event is certainly the wonderful Flower Arranging Competition which is held on stage each day in front of a vast audience. It is a delight just to sit and watch as flower arranging experts from all over Australia compete for the prizes.

This time of the year in Melbourne is always wonderful - with a possibility of some rain but usually beautiful days to walk around and enjoy this spectacular show. This years weather was kind to us and my family and I strolled around whilst I took many photos. It was so much easier for me this year as I took my new digital camera and got some wonderful photos which I will share with you. Flower Show Dresses

Another of the great features again this year was the competition held making dresses out of flowers and floral arrangements. I managed to photograph them all this year and I will put together a portfolio of photos for your enjoyment. This is always held inside the Great Hall which has been decorated for the occasion.

Outside, of course are the wonderful sideshows which are full of glorious bulbs, flowers and plants to buy. Also, many garden products are for sale, as well as products such as statues and fountains, mulches, herbs and spices. One of my favourites each year is the stall that specialises in Iris and I always come home with a few new varieties and species to add to my ever-growing garden. Another is the group that sell wonderful Lilium bulbs in packets - just the right time of the year to purchase them here in Australia for planting out. I have managed to increase my lovely Lilium collection and I always buy a "surprise packet" which gives me great joy when they eventually flower in spring.

Inside the Great Hall, there are also featured many of the companies supplying products for the Nursery and Florist Industry and many of them give away little samples of fertilisers, water crystals, flower seeds, vegetable seeds and even plastic raincoats and bunches of flowers. An art exhibition is held on the second floor of the Great Hall and many follow a floral theme in keeping with the event. As you can see, there is plenty to keep your attention as you stroll through the crowded hallways and markets. It's always nice to be able to stop too, for a nice cuppa and a bit of lunch.
