Melbourne International Flower Show
In my last article, I wrote about all the beautiful garments featured at the flower show in 2004, "Garments from the Garden" http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/5299...

Having had the opportunity to attend all of the yearly shows bar one, I have been most impressed with the professionalism of the show. Each year, although the exhibitors and displays do change somewhat, the quality always seems to please the great crowds who attend.

This year, I went looking again for my favourite Lilium grower and to my pleasure he was in the same section as in previous years. It is nice to know that you will find the wonderful suppliers who attend year after year so you can add to your growing collection of plants.

The old Royal Exhibition Building has been renovated in the past few years, back to its old glory and it is an ideal indoor venue for the many displays that vie for the prizes for best design. They are always innovative and inspiring and include the great Aussie style of design and adaptability. Color and form is always an integral part of their design styles and we are so lucky in Australia to have so many endemic flowers and plants, weird and wonderful in their type and style. We are indeed "The Lucky Country"

Outdoors, of course, the display themes are designed for the home gardener and many a statue, water fountain or simple knick-knack has been taken home through these gates.

The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is undoubtedly Australia's most beautiful event, representing all areas of the Ornamental Horticulture Industry. Huge numbers of international and local visitors gather to view the very best of what Melbourne's mild autumn can offer. In eight years approximately 980,000 visitors have attended the event and they keep coming back for more.

We can collect ideas for creating beauty and colour in our own gardens by seeing displays presented by some of Australia's most talented landscape designers. This event, staged at the historic Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens invites you to escape the city hustle and bustle and to step into a world of flowers and scents, to literally "smell the roses" .... and the begonias, geraniums, rhododendrons, waratahs, agonis, banksia, kangaroo paw, mountain daisy, ti tree, eucalyptus, chrysanthemum, gerbera, lisianthus, carnations, tulips - you will find it all at the Show.

The feature gardens are stunning and provide visitors with inspirational ideas for creating beauty and colour in their own garden. The displays are designed and constructed by some of Australia's most talented landscape designers.
