Last month you checked the exterior of yor house for potentail problems. Here are some critical things that you might want to check inside the house before summer sets in. Check #1 - Plumbing Cleaning your drains can save you costly plumbing repairs. It is relatively simple to open the traps under the sinks to check for any clogging. Place a bucket under the trap and open the trap with a suitable wrench. An auger or plumbing snake can be used to check that the drain is clean. The waste drains are more difficult to inspect. But it is worth the while to visually inspect around the toilets for any leaks. The traps in the basement should also be checked for any leaks. Check #2 - Windows Check the caulking around windows and replace any broken pieces. Also check the frames and repaint where necessary. Check for loose frames and broken hardware. Cleaning window glass and window screens is also a good idea as now you will want to open them. Check #3 - Air Filters Replacing air filters will improve air quality. Also check your humidifyer. Most likely it will not be needed in the summer months. In hot and dry climates, the humidifyer will be needed so check to make sure it is in good working order.
Check #4 - Foundation If you have a basement, please inspect it visually to check for any cracks, leakage etc. This check is necessary to preempt any repairs needed. When the snow melts you would not want to flood your basement due to a crack that went unnoticed.
Check #5 - Thermostat Having a thermostat is a wise decision. A programmable one is well worth its cost. If you have one, check the settings and make sure you have the right temperature ranges set-up for spring. If you do not have one, it is the right time to get one and save some money on cooling bills this year.
Next time, types of lighting will be discussed. So see you then. Have an idea you would like to see reported? Or a suggestion? Send that in too Go To Page: 1
