Applications

As seen from the list above, gypsum boards and their related products, can be used in a variety of applications. Common uses are:

  • In walls and ceilings - as a finish surface. It provides a smooth, easy-to-finish surface that can be painted, wall-papered, etc. with ease. It can also be used in ceilings as panels which can create a false ceiling system.
  • In moist areas - as a backer board in kitchens, washrooms etc., although this might not be recommended in all situations.
  • In exterior applications - special gypsum products are available for this application.
  • For fire-resistance and area separation - 45-minutes to 2-hour fire-rated assemblies can be created using gypsum board systems. Gypsum boards can also be used for area separations in larger buildings.
  • Special Systems - there are some specialized systems that have been created using gypsum boards and their versatility. A-Wall is one such modular system.
