Just a few tidbits as we head into this long summer of reruns. Many thanks to Jennifer Godwin at Buffy News Wire for keeping us all up-to-date. FX, the 20th Century Fox cable channel, is scheduled to begin daily syndication of the previous seasons of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on or about September 24, 2001. Meanwhile, an October 9 two-hour season premiere is expected for "Buffy" at her new home on UPN, although that information is still tentative. It appears that the "musical episode" rumored for the upcoming sixth season of "BtVS" may be for real and not just another Joss Whedon prank. We'll have to stay tuned. Meanwhile, the first issue of Joss Whedon's comic, "Fray," about a slayer in the distant future, has sold out and is now being reprinted. Joss will also author the new version of the "Angel" comic which is scheduled to begin in September. Both "Fray" and "Angel," along with the "BtVS" comic, are published by Dark Horse Comics. Descriptions of the first three issues of "Joss Whedon's Fray" and of the first issue of the "Angel" relaunch are available at the Dark Horse Comics site. "BtVS" won as "best network television series" this year in the Saturn Awards, given by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. Both "BtVS" and "Angel" had been nominated in the 2000 Saturn Awards. James Marsters (Spike) also received a Saturn Award this year as Best Supporting Actor. "BtVS" has also been nominated for a Television Critics Association award in the category "Outstanding Achievement in Drama." The awards will be announced on July 17, 2001. The "Give Buffy an Emmy" campaign is in full swing. The ad which appeared in the June 14 issue of "Variety" can be viewed online here: http://sgcwebdesign.com/variety/ Anthony Stewart Head's planned Giles miniseries, variously described as "Ripper" or "Watcher," now appears to be a go, for UK viewers only. A.S.H. is dropping to "recurring" status during the sixth season of "BtVS." There is no word yet on when, if ever, the Giles miniseries would become available for U.S. viewing. For the latest UK news, an excellent source is The Watchers' Web. Meanwhile, repeats of "Buffy" are currently airing on Sundays and Wednesdays on The WB.
