However, there are no mixed feelings in the fandom about this possibility. The reaction seems to be unanimous: it would be disastrous if Charisma Carpenter left "Angel." Would the show survive somehow? Yes, as it has managed to survive the loss of Glenn Quinn's Doyle, "Angel" would somehow survive, but would it be the show that it was meant to be? No. "Angel" has never been just about the character of Angel, but about his relationships with the people around him. We didn't need "To Shanshu in L.A." to teach us that Angel is vulnerable when he is isolated and that he needs to be connected with the human beings around him; we knew that already, when Doyle pointed it out in "City of." No one could truly replace Doyle, and no one could ever truly replace Cordelia. Let's hope that the rumors of these departures are false, and that we will be enjoying Marc Blucas as Riley and Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia for a long time to come. If the stories prove to be true, however, then we can only wish both Marc and Charisma all the best of luck in the future. The Buffyverse will be left poorer for the loss.
