route you are ready to look at the rail pass options. Generally, a flexi-pass allows for non-consecutive days of travel within a period and is usually the best buy. Although the standard passes that offer consecutive days of travel are less costly to purchase it is an unusual traveler who plans a major train trip daily. On trips of several weeks' duration, I have found using a flexipass for my long trips and purchasing cheap singles or cheap returns for side trips has worked out to my advantage. One rule always applies - you must figure out the cost of separately ticketing each leg of your journey and compare it to the pass. BIG WARNING: The best buys on railpasses are available for foreign nationals who buy the ticket before they leave their home country. Don't plan to buy a pass to chug from London to York to Edinburgh once you get to the UK. Amtrak offers great tours of America through most British and European travel agents. Next week we'll start with a look at the area of travel-land where the sky's the limit - the expensive world of air travel. Preview Travel at http://excite.previewtravel.com is running a special in combination with American Airlines - buy a qualifying ticket and recieve a certificate good for a $99 companions ticket offer ends September 4. British Airways offer of a free round trip intra-Europe flight in conjunction with a round trip flight to London ends September 3 1-800-AIRWAYS.
Condo-renters and resort tourists take note! On-sale an on-line auction company that sells computor gear via on-line auction has branched out into the vacation business. Their new site at http://www.onsale.com/vacations.htm sells crusies, condo-rentals, and airfare on an auction basis.
