Dreaming

Ms Budget Travel has been having bizarre dreams lately --- last week she had a terrifying dream involving dead parakeets. . . and this morning she woke up recalling a journey in days gone by when she used one of her favorite techniques for finding a cheap restaurant . . .

Years ago in Amsterdam she noted, not for the first time, that restaurants around prime tourist locations are a tad pricey. Figuring that folk who work in vicinity have to eat somewhere, she spoke with a nice young man selling imitation whatever jewelry right outside the Rijksmuseum ----

http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/ will get you to the Rijksmuseum web site - it's a truly incredible, often under-rated museum --- travelers seldom speak of it in the awed tones reserved for the Louvre, but golly, gee. If you are in Amsterdam block off an entire day to have a nice wander round the place.

Anyway, Ms Budget Travel had a nice chat with the young man who assured her that she could get a nice inexpensive lunch round the corner. She noted the directions and trotted off -- well, readers. It was cheap. But, it looms large in Ms Budget Travel's memory as the second worse meal she's ever had on the road. Darn shame, because Amsterdam has some excellent eating options --- more about which next week when Ms Budget Travel talks about food.

This week she wanted to point out that while many museum-lovers head for Paris, Rome, and Madrid, they may want to detour to Amsterdam ---

The Museum Boat

Is Amsterdam's gift to the tired tourist who wants to take in as many museums as possible during a visit to the city. Museumboot makes stops at seven key locations around the city. The boat stops every 45 minutes. It provides easy access to 16 museums total; stops 1-5 have most of the major ones. Stop 1, the Anne Frankhuis Stop 2, the Rijksmuseum, Vincent van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art Stop 3, Madame Tussaud's Scenerama and the Amsterdam's Historisch Museum Stop 4, Museum Het Rembrandthuis and the Jewish Historical Museum Stop 5, the Netherlands Maritime Museum and the Tropenmuseum.

Adult fare for a full day of off and on riding is only 12.50 USD and includes discounts on museum admission. Ms Budget Travel does not recommend trying to fit the Rijksmuseum into this schedule.

Contact the Museum Boat at 020-622-2181. Advance booking is not required, just show up at the stop, and purchase a ticket.
