Ms Budget Travel does the unthinkable

Ms Budget Travel swore she would never do it . . . reclining on her chaise lounge, soothing drink in hand she relentlessly mocked those who did . . . She was even, when a tad too-soothed, given to zipping off derisive emails post-midnight ridiculing those who did it.

Oh, Ms Budget Travel did admit, on this very web page, that she liked the Shatner commercials. After all, Kirk was the real captain . . . the only real captain. Jean-Luc Picard was a tad too antiseptic, too controlled . . . okay, he just wasn't enough of a guy for Ms Budget Travel.

You know what she did, don't you?

She succumbed to the seduction of Priceline . . .

After reading countless horror stories of terrifying ticket transformations and hearing about changed flights, cancelled reservations, and bizarre lay-overs in Bismarck Ms Budget Travel knew she'd never fall prey to Priceline . . . No matter HOW many commercials Bill Shatner made . . .

After all, Ms Budget Travel is not a comerciallie -she knows it's only advertising.

Ms Budget Travel even cleverly calculated that Priceline probably could not cut below the otherwise offered APEX fare and she knows how to get that on her own thank-you-very-much.

Some times late at night demons whispered to her, remember Amazon.com, remember how they lost money to boldly go where retailing had not gone before?

Then it came to pass that Ms Budget Travel needed a ticket from CLT to SEA. A US domestic ticket --- an expensive, costs more that going across the Atlantic ticket. . . she searched diligently --- travelocity, expedia, lowest fare, all the usual suspects. Alas! The ticket prices soared to the height of a 747. The lowest one she found gave her the shrieking oogies.

Holding her breath, door locked, Ms Budget Travel typed http://www.priceline.com into her browser. Blushing like a middle school student seeking porn, she watched the site come up. Furtively, she filled in her data. She could-not-be-flexible-regarding-her-travel dates. She requested a round trip, date-specific fare from CLT to SEA --- she punched in 250 USD --- well, the little booger told her that statistically speaking there would be a blizzard in the tropics before she got a fare at that price. Priceline suggested she request travel at a higher price.

Ms Budget Travel was enraged. She is after all Ms Budget Travel, not Ms Spend All You Can Travel.

Emboldened by anger she punched in a request for a lower fare . . . Priceline retaliated by telling her no way would she get that price but because they were such good guys they'd search . . .
