After a long humid summer of crowded flights, frequent delays, and high-ticket prices, autumn brings us lower airfares and constant competitive deals from the folks in the airline industry. If you aren't already surfing constantly for flight deals, start now.
Likewise, if you aren't already on an airline's mailing list for e-savers and other specials it's time to clutter your mailbox with continual seductive savings. Fall and winter are full of great deals for flyers. Is your local airport a hub for any airline? If your airport is a hub, you both gain and lose. During peak travel time airports dominated by one carrier tend to have higher prices than those served more or less equally by several airlines. However, during shoulder and low season people using a single airline hub benefit from radically reduced fares. Some good places to get information http://www.britishairways.com/regional/u... for British Airways specials, http://www.twa.com to enter TWA's free ticket contest up until November 10 you can win two free tickets anywhere in the world, and http://www.usairwaysvacations.com/hotdea... to find out what special fares are on offer from USAirways and here http://www.usairways.com/esavers/enroll.... to enroll in USAirways e-saver plan. Halloween came early this year. A major storm hit Europe delaying and canceling flights from Amsterdam to London. Train service across the UK was disrupted for at least two days. It was a real horror. Just a reminder to budget travelers, always carry enough extra currency or a credit card so that if you're stranded between hostels you can get an emergency hotel room. And always carry a book or three, no matter how light you travel being without a book when you're stuck in a station for sixteen hours is the travel equivalent of root canal work. An essential part of your mobile library should be Britain by Britrail or Europe by Eurail available from http://www.railpass.com . Years ago Ms Budget Travel was stuck in Coventry by virtual of her own lack of planning. When the train pulled into the station the town did not look particularly enchanting. Fortunately she had a copy of Britain by Britrail in her backpack and was able to find lots to do and see. Had she been unarmed and bereft of information she'd have sat in the station sulking. Regular readers who've traveled with me for a while are aware that Halloween is Ms Budget Travel's favorite holiday. This year you can read my spooky round-up of haunted holiday locales at http://www.trip.com/completetraveler/art... and if you'd like a ghost closer to home http://www.fxsupply.com/haunted_house/HH... lists haunted houses in the USA and Canada.
