Creepy Trails to You . . .

I love Halloween.

I love seeing normally staid blazer clad bankers dressed as Teletubbies and nurses wearing Dracula teeth drawing blood.

I like to dress up. In a Diane-designed world we'd all get up every day and decide what we wanted to be. We'd wear the robes of a Roman to go grocery shopping, or take on the personae of a French queen to head for the office. Backpackers would cluster around Interstate exits disguised as clowns. Schoolteachers would go Goth to teach geography.

But, alas, I can't always get what I want. except on Halloween. And, I especially love the shivery, spooky, mysterious, creepy fashion statements most folks choose. I like wearing black. I like Edwardian lace and medieval necklines.

Assuming other people look forward to Halloween and are eager to come out of the closet as born-again Goths, wicked witches, or monster moms, I've listed some web pages to help you have a spooky journey.

New England Halloween lovers still have time to get a ticket to The Hawthorne Hotel's Halloween Costume ball at http://www.hawthornehotel.com/halloween/... although there is "no room at the inn." The hotel is completely booked for Halloween weekend, but ball tickets are still available. Purists interested in the real deal about witches can drop in on the Witches' League for Public Awareness web page at http://www.celticcrow.com/index.html and separate fact from fiction.

If you want a blow out four-day Halloween weekend in Salem, as of October 9 The Inn at Seven Winter Street still had a suite available. While not a budget option, it looks gorgeous http://www.inn7winter.com/rooms.html and dates from 1870.

If you are in England or anywhere near, there is only one place for the Halloween purist --- Whitby. Whitby was the setting for most of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula and is currently home to Rex Greenwood, a delightful tour guide who has spent years being Dracula. http://www.whitby-uk.com will guide you around Whitby.

If you are in the area, I encourage you to try to book a room at The Seacliffe Hotel http://www.milford.co.uk/england/accom/h... . The Seacliffe offers bed and breakfast for as low as 27.50 (pounds) and has an exceptional restaurant. During my last stay, I ordered a salad for dinner and much to my surprise, enough potatoes and veggies accompanied it for three hungry people. The bar is well stocked and the staff is helpful. Bargain watchers should book the Captain Cook Country Break --- for 89 pounds two people stay for two nights and receive dinner , bed and breakfast. Choose any of the seafood casseroles, they're exceptional, and the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey will work the sauce off your thighs.
