Bits and Pieces . . .

Whenever I travel, I return with ticket stubs, sample-sized shampoos, and crumbled cookies cowering in the bottom of my bag. My favorite souvenirs through the years are coasters from pubs of no historical importance or lurid underwear bought in supermarkets once I'd tired of sink-washing my panties.

I treasure the bizarre pornography I salvaged from the floor of my last London lodgings and the description of available garnet jewelry I brought back from Prague years ago. A smashed kiwi candy bar from Barcelona is decomposing in my kitchen cupboard - my heirs will deal with it once I go to that great tube station in the sky.

This week I'm straightening out my mess just a tad. Not tossing it, mind you, I'm just shifting through the debris of an addicted tripper. The first bit of flotsam is actually netsam - a post from a reader that alerted me to the paucity of resources for budget hotel bookings in the US. Try http://www.travelbase.com for USA hotel reservations. Dna2 pointed out that http://www.hotelworld couldn't find a booking for Phoenix, Arizona. I'm grateful to dna2! I am glad that someone reminded me to tell you about travelbase - the site lists 330 hotels, 5 bed and breakfasts, and 4 package deal specials in Phoenix - most of them can be booked over the Internet by a quick click on the travelbase page.

More mess...

If you are near London this week you might want to hop off the tube at Temple around 2PM Wednesday the 28th. A planned protest demonstration regarding the right of British citizens to go naked is scheduled to take place around the Inns of Court.

If you are on the Eastern Seaboard of the USA, it is a great time to go coastal. Temperatures are in the 100s far too many places. Keep in mind that Myrtle Beach and many other places along the Grand Strand still have public beaches. You don't have to stay in a pricey resort for sea and surf. You can still snag a camp space and get wet in the waves without spending a bundle.

Campers and backpackers can get a goldmine of free information by mousing by http://www.greatoutdoors.com in addition to practical tips on how to pack smart or find the perfect cabin the site has links to all of the US national parks.

Leaving the connected fifty but staying in the States? http://www.aaa.hawaii.com/members/discou... describes discounts available to all American Automobile Association members. This bit of information is at the top of my pile of this n that this week because of a particularly stupid set of decisions I made last Friday.
