Clicking Cross Country

"Wherever you go, there you are."

I shudder in recollection but there was a time in my life when that statement seemed profound. During the same period I had yet to grasp, that one woman's home was another woman's vacation destination.

I haven't matured much. I am still nasty enough to snicker a bit at Americans who want to go "to Europe" and other folks who want to travel "to America" we are discussing major land masses guys, with a range of cultures, foods, and accents. South Carolina is as unlike New York as Scotland is foreign to France. To really enjoy your travels you have to know something about your destination.

Back in the USA

Starting this week we are going to click our way across country - the United States of America from "A" to "W" in cyberspace ought to give you a sampler of what to see and do in all fifty states - then, we'll go world wide.

http://www.touralabama.org is the official site of the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel. Alabama offers a temperate climate, Gulf Coast beaches, golf, and a Coon Dog cemetery. Birmingham offers an array of bars and a statue of Vulcan that will do something (I forget what) if a virgin walks past. The site is easy to navigate and search by interest or geographic region. A possible drawback or bonus isthe inclusion every rock, library, and Magnolia tree in the state that could generate two lines of copy.

I have a suspicion that it is really really cold in Alaska. When my cousins Marshall and Carol told me about weird equipment that you have to have to start a car when it is 30 degrees below freezing, I got even more suspicious. I seem to know many people that really want to go to Alaska. I apologize to the entire state, I'm not one of them. http://www.travelalaska.com - the web site for the Division of Tourism did not change my mind - it demanded I install shockwave to access it - with so many other places to go, I didn't bother.

I've always thought that Arizona was full of really cool outdoor stuff for people who like outdoor stuff - the only outdoor things that I really like are sidewalk cafes and formal gardens.

http://www.arizonaguide.com made me re-think my bias. The pictures of the Grand Canyon are gorgeous. The information about a range of sites makes this one of the most desirable tourist trips in the cyber USA. I hung out here awhile and found out about the Petrified Forest, taking Steam Railway trips and a host of other activities. Information is very accessible; the internal search engine is easy to use.
