Fly me to . . .

No matter how cheap something is-free is better.

Free is definitely desirable

Between walking and the Concorde there are a wide range of transportation choices and prices. For the budget traveler each trip provides another "values clarification" exercise---- three weeks in Italy in low cost lodgings versus one night in a five star resort is one extreme example of the mental gymnastics we go through doing our trip planning.

A rail pass for one versus a car and shared gas for a group is a more mundane example of the coin toss we undergo when we ready ourselves for the road. But, no matter what the equation---free is best.

Unfortunately, free sometimes means hikes and hitchhikes that might present a problem if you are physically unfit, taking kids, or otherwise vulnerable. Reducing expenses by piling into one car with eight friends and a dog is not always an option.

Fortunately for we web-cruisers David Fisher creator of the extremely helpful Airline Mileage Workshop at http://members.theglobe.com/mileage has given us all plan B.

Frequent flyer miles come to those who plan

That's right-you can plan your way around the world without buying luxury goods, dinning in expensive restaurants, changing your telephone company or flying frequently to rack up those miles. David has assembled the most comprehensive gathering of frequent flyer offers available on the web. The confirmed mouse potato can accumulate enough miles to do some serious moving about without spending a dime or leaving the comfort of his own computer.

David shows you how to earn valuable frequent flyer miles on multiple airlines without spending anything except time.

The site is well organized, easy to understand and updated frequently. It's also linked to several popular budget travel sites including the popular Best Fares On-line. Best Fares offers an array of frequently updated special offers that work well for the flexible flyer----to get the best deals you must subscribe to the magazine. However, if there is a deal you want you might make up the cost of the subscription on your savings from one ticket. It's certainly worth a look around when you're visiting the Airline Mileage Workshop.

And, now for something completely different

Some of you will be celebrating Winter Solstice today. If the day is a significant one in your belief system you will find specialty travel information you can't get elsewhere in Power Trips a magazine devoted to exploration of the Earth's scared places. You can check out forthcoming articles and subscribe to the magazine by visiting their website at http://www.cedarcottage.com/power
