Airfare Anxiety

Sep 8, 1998 - © Diane Goldberg under the original topic name

If you are extremely flexible, monitor airlines that send many flights to your favorite destinations. Watch for specials read the travel pages daily and check airline web-sites. Check this page often! I'll always pass on juicy deals like the BA free-city deal that I passed along a few weeks ago. Comb the bargain travel links off this page for specials and sales.

Be willing to substitute airport convenience for savings. Some times specials will only cover one airport in a market.

Check out air-hotel packages. While not often true, there are odd moments when a fly/room package on a major carrier will be less expensive than purchasing the flight alone.

Join frequent flyer programs. [Check out the link under Frequent Flyer.]

Be willing to be bumped. If you are bumped, grovel and appease every airline employee you encounter. On transatlantic flights, a free ticket will sometimes be offered in exchange for your willingness to be bumped.

It goes without saying that you always fly the cheapest class of service. The entire plane arrives at the same time.

Get on e-saver lists for all the airlines---check out the links on this page---be willing to break your journey into jumps. If you want to go from New York to Miami, check for discounted fares to Richmond or DC and then price the remainder of your journey.

. . . My final rule, super saving for the fearless . . . get a flight to a major market---O'Hare in the USA, Heathrow in London . . . check out bargain flights from that major center onward . . .

Until next week,

Diane

By the way, I'd LOVE to hear your cheap airfare tricks!

HOT NEWS!!!!!! All callers to the BTA 800 number 1-800-462-2748 from now until the end of September will be entered into a drawing to win free transatlantic tickets on British Airways and a free Great Britian Heritage Pass WOW
