The technique I want to discuss today, is one of my all time favorites, and I am sure will be one of yours too. As I am sure you all know, painted floor cloths are all the rage and very expensive to buy, so forget that! We will make our own for a very small amount of money. First, I would like to explain the reason I found something other than canvas to paint on, primarily because of the cost, then secondly because the canvas ones move around too much and stay wrinkled. With what you are about to learn you will eliminate all those negatives. Go to any store that sells and installs flooring and get a scrap piece of linoleum in the size you need. You can cut this with scissors if any trimming is necessary. Now, turn it over! That is right, we are going to paint on the back side. I suggest that you draw off your entire pattern before beginning. Once the pattern is to your liking, start painting. You may use craft paint or anything else you have available. Let this dry completely, the secret is in putting several coats of polyurethane over the entire surface. I would put at least 3 for a rug that will last and be beautiful for years. Once that has dried and completely cured, use it as you would any other rug. The beauty of this rug is, to clean it, all you need do is mop it. Remember those special people this holiday season, and what a great gift this would make for anyone. This project is a beautiful artistic expression, and the major requirement is patience. Yet, the reward for that patience is unmeasurable.
TIP: To remove rust stains from your laundry, saturate the stain in a strong solution of salt and lemon juice, let it sit in the sun for a few hours, then launder as normal. This will almost always remove that stubborn stain! 'Til Next Week - Terri Landrum Go To Page: 1
